Couple’s who have not been able to conceive despite trying for a while tend to get anxious. They dread the word “Infertility”. Delayed conception does not always mean you are infertile. In a majority of instances it is the outcome of wrong lifestyle habits or disregard for health. Thus, minor alterations can make a “THE” difference to your life.

Given are pregnancy tips to boost your fertility.

Watch your weight

Being overweight or underweight lowers your chances of getting pregnant. Both conditions are undesirable as they influence your ovulation cycle by interfering with the production of pregnancy essential hormones. Overweight women often experience irregular periods. On the other hand, excessively skinny people do not have enough body fat to sustain the pregnancy. Therefore, the body automatically averts conception until the body is capable.

Experts suggest that women should maintain a healthy weight when trying to conceive.

Quit smoking

One of the best pregnancy tips and fertility boosters is to give up smoking. The toxins present in the smoke have different impacts on a man and woman’s reproductive capability. In women, it causes the ovaries to age, lowers production of eggs and does not allow for successful fertilization and implantation. In men, it results in lower sperm counts and weak sperm. Therefore the only solution is to cut back on smoking.

Quitting smoking not only helps you conceive faster and protects the health of your baby during pregnancy but also reduces your vulnerability to major diseases in the long run.

Track Your Menstrual Cycle

The menstrual cycle lasts between 28- 35 days. You have to track your menstrual cycles to determine your most fertile days; that is to find out when ovulation occurs for you. Ovulation occurs somewhere around the midpoint of your cycle. The day of ovulation and 4-5 days prior to it are the most fertile periods. If you have sex on these days you are more likely to get pregnant. You can use an ovulation kit or watch out for physical changes such as changes to cervical mucus, breast tenderness, increase in libido and changes in basal body temperature.

Monitoring your menstrual cycle will also help you determine if ovulation is occurring regularly. If you have a very long cycle, more than 42 days, you should consult your gynecologist.

Get Busy Between the Sheets

A good suggestion is to have sex more often. However, sexual intercourse on a daily basis can get stressful given our hectic lifestyles. In this case, you can at least aim for every other day during your “fertile window” or twice a week on a general basis. Regular sex helps regulate a woman’s monthly cycle and a man’s sperm count.

Eat healthy

Your body should be able to fulfill its own nourishment needs before it takes up the responsibility of another. For this, you need to eat well. Your diet should include vegetables, fruits, whole grains, lean meat, legumes and low fat dairy products in the desired quantities. Avoid refined carbohydrates, excessive sodium and fatty foods.

You should after consulting your doctor take a multivitamin. Folic acid is a great fertility booster.

You should also drink plenty of water. Among the beverages, avoid excessive intake of stimulants such as coffee and alcohol. They have negative impacts on your fertility.

Be Careful of the Lubricants you use

You should lower the use of lubricants as certain products contain spermicidal agents; ingredients that hamper fertilization and thereby conception.

Take Time to Unwind

Stress has a damaging impact on fertility in males and females. Therefore couples should learn relaxation techniques to manage stress effectively. Engage in exercise, yoga or mindful meditation.
